About Us
For every musician that’s Googled “how to get the tone from this famous artist” and found countless replies on forums that just say “practice for 20+ years” this website is for you.
Sure, no amount of equipment is a substitute for practice, but your rendition of Enter Sandman will sound a lot better if you’re not playing a ‘57 Stratocaster through your amp’s clean channel. Similarly, your cover of Sultans of Swing will be a lot more recognisable if you’re not chugging a Jackson with active pickups through some heavy distortion.
Player Spec isn’t trying to replace any of the great gear guides or rig rundowns out there, in fact we wouldn’t be here without the insights, hard work and research that goes into making them.
Instead our aim is to point people in the right direction when trying to emulate the tones that inspire them and present options ranging from true authenticity, to affordable workarounds.

Player Spec isn’t owned by a big, faceless company, so we’re free to make impartial recommendations about equipment (new and pre-owned), your options and how you might be able to save yourself some money at the same time.
We are not paid to promote any specific brands or businesses, but we do use links to products on external sites, which means we receive a percentage of any sales on that site through our link.
This helps support the ongoing creation of content, site hosting costs while keeping Player Spec free of ads.
